Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Mongolia D.Gankhuyag who is attending the 25th session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva held a meeting with High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay. Deputy Minister D.Gankhuyag said that Mongolia is running for election to UN Human Rights Council for 2016-2018 to make its contribution to and move ahead closer cooperation with UN and its organizations for promoting rule of law, democracy and human rights. He thanked the High Commissioner for the participation in a high-level panel discussion on moratorium on the question of the death penalty co-hosted by Mongolia in association with France, Costa Rica, Benin and Moldova. In order to make a real contribution to the support of activities of Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, the Government of Mongolia decided to make a financial donation.
Highlighting that Mongolia sets an example for other countries of the region by making great strides in protecting human rights and promoting democracy, Navi Pillay re-affirmed that OHCHR is ready for the further cooperation with Mongolia.
