Last year, five police officers were suspected of accepting 40 million tugrik to help Chinese nut traders import a large amount of goods into Mongolia illegally. These officers were sentenced to 3 and a half to 5 years in prison and fines of 100 thousand tugrik.
In December last year, complaints were made by Mongolian traders, who accused Chinese nut traders of importing goods illegally across the Mongolian border. It turned out that five police officers were part of the conspiracy and had accepted 40 million tugrik in bribes.
A court date had been planned, but it was postponed to pursue more detailed investigations and authorities decided to deny the police officers the right to work for five years.
Yesterday, Bayangol district judges sentenced the police officers to three and a half to five years in prison and ordered them to pay fines of 100 thousand tugrik.
